When I say I’m living in a fairy-tale…

August 30, 2010 at 7:43 am (Uncategorized)

If one must spend a sleepless night, at least one can make it productive. Like the delightful evening I spent chatting with the three little old women who spend their days pounding millet out in the backwoods of my village. I’ll have you know that, in my head, my Bomu was perfect. The three witches from Macbeth., standing over their cauldron on the hillside with a storm rolling in over them, brewing up trouble. With their huge mortars and pestles and arms that could break me in half as soon as look at me. I taught them how to make gumbo and they let me pass on to deliver stuffed peppers to the women’s association president over the hill.

Clearly, nothing interesting has happened in the past two weeks, except that homestay has ended, my language test was passed, and swear-in will be happening on Friday. Which is all note-worthy, I suppose.

What an adventure you have been having. You write so vividly that at times I feel like I am there with you. I loved the bird description on your bike ride.

My bike riding has been on the SIUE bike trails and not even much of that because it has been so HOT!

Denny and I enjoyed an evening with your mom and Dad at the SIUE School of Dental Medicine appreciation dinner. It was good to see them and hear them talk about you. They are still a bit concerned but they are ohhhhhh so proud. And they miss you lots…of course.

Well you said you wanted news…Can’t think of much more…Oh yes, The Rams beat the Patriots last week.

    God Bless and Be Wise,

    Diane
